Your words, your documents
docduck has an on-device workspace, optional cloud documents, and an editor that websites can embed. Each saves documents differently.
This page is a practical guide to storage and document controls. Read the Privacy policy for how DocDuck handles account information, documents, and optional provider sign-in.
Your device workspace
The main workspace opens, edits, and saves Word files in your browser. You do not need an account. The workspace does not upload your document contents to docduck’s cloud library or send them to an AI service.
This browser stores each document’s Word file, extracted readable text, name, filename, creation and update times, and revision number. It also keeps up to ten earlier saved versions. Another browser, device, or website address has a different device library.
Browser storage is not a backup. Clearing site data, removing your browser profile, using a private browsing window, or browser storage eviction can remove documents. Download each Word file from this workspace to keep a separate copy. If you use Cloud Documents, its account options include a separate cloud-library backup. That backup does not include documents saved only on this device.
Version history opens an earlier saved version as a new copy. Delete document removes that document, its current Word file, extracted text, and version history from this browser when the operation succeeds.
Cloud documents
Cloud documents use your docduck sign-in and docduck’s dedicated Supabase project for account access, library records, and private Word file storage. This library is separate from this browser’s device library. Signing in does not upload your device documents. To transfer one, open Save a copy to cloud and then choose Upload this document. You can also create documents directly in the cloud workspace.
The cloud library stores Word files, document names and filenames, revision and update information, word counts, and the current document’s readable text in a separate owner-scoped search index. The index follows the current Word file and is not copied into earlier-version records. When you search cloud documents, your query is sent to docduck’s Supabase database, which returns only matching document IDs and short text snippets. A cloud account can hold up to 50 documents, and each Word file can be up to 20 MB. Up to ten earlier versions are retained for each document.
Delete document removes a cloud document and its saved versions when successful. Account deletion also removes the cloud document library and files when complete. If the app reports a cleanup problem, follow the message and retry.
Older cloud CV records
Files saved in DocDuck before Cloud Documents launched remain in their original private storage. They are not shown or moved into Cloud Documents. Account deletion removes the account’s stored files and records from both storage areas when cleanup succeeds.
When another website embeds the editor
An embedded editing session receives a Word file from the website and returns edited Word bytes to that website when it requests an export. The embedded session does not use your docduck account or device library, and does not save document contents to docduck’s cloud library.
The website owns its storage and saving behavior. A session’s “saved” event means the editor has prepared the current Word file in memory; it is not confirmation that the website has stored it. The website must export and store the document before closing the editor. Reloading or closing an embedded session can discard work that the website has not exported.
The website’s own privacy and retention practices apply to the documents it provides and receives.
Hosting and third-party components
Hosting services process requests needed to deliver the application and its assets. Cloud sign-in uses Google when enabled, with email links retained as a fallback. Google Drive access is requested separately when you choose a Drive file, and DocDuck uses the Google email from sign-in as an account hint when available. Email links use an email delivery service. This page does not promise that providers keep no logs or that provider backups are immediately erased.
The editor uses open source editor components and fonts. Complex Word layouts may render differently. PDF export is available from File > Export. It preserves the visible pages as images and adds selectable, searchable text for supported fonts and characters. Editing PDF files and legacy .doc files is not available in the current workspace.
